Stewart and I independently discovered this burr shape in the late 1960's. I came up with the design by considering rods perpendicular to the regular polyhedra (in this case, a regular tetrahedra or octahedra). Stewart thought of the idea by expanding upon the rhombic dodecahedron, which is a hollow shape in the interior of Hectix.
